the Atkins Diet™ [the Atkins Diet]
a weight loss programme developed by Dr Robert Atkins (1930–2003) which involves restricting the amount of ↑carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta, etc, that you eat and replacing them with more ↑protein and fat, such as meat, butter, etc. People who follow the ↑diet are expected to lose weight because their body will burn more fat for energy. The ↑diet became very popular in the US and Britain and there are many Atkins books and food products available.
